Shoe Service Project

This Sunday's lesson in our Extreme Makeover theme is on serving.  We will study the story of the woman who served Jesus by anointing his feet with her tears and expensive oil.  The "main point" for this week's lesson is "We serve others."

I became aware recently that in many countries around the world, many children have no shoes--none.  Walking barefoot makes them susceptible to injury and disease.  The amazing thing is that through Friends for Life International, it only takes $3.60 to purchase one pair of shoes.

I thought this month preceding Thanksgiving would be a great time to give our children the opportunity to serve and understand that by serving, they can be an arm of God by helping to provide for a great need.  I will challenge our kids to find a way they can serve others in the month ahead to raise the money which they can contribute to help buy at least one pair of shoes. Children can bring their money in each week.  We will make a visual display on the wall and put up a pair of shoes for each $3.60 brought in. We will collect money until November 20, the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

Your help in encouraging your child to find ways to serve others to raise money would be greatly appreciated.  I know you could probably easily hand your child $3.60, but what a valuable lesson for them.  The woman who anointed Jesus' feet gave what she had out of love.  What a great opportunity for our children to learn the joy of giving lavishly. You may even want to make this a family project and get everyone involved!  Thank you in advance for your help.

Remember:  "We serve others."

Serving with you,
Dianne
